Statement of expertise for the sub-committee: Dr. Popescu's area of interest is the management of patients with cardiac stents presenting for non-cardiac surgery. She has been appointed by the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) as their representative to the American Heart Association (AHA) in the Workgroup on developing Guidelines for management of antiplatelet therapy before gastro-endoscopic procedures. Additionally, she is a member of the workgroup for developing Guidelines for Enhanced Recovery After Thoracic Surgery.
Biography: Dr. Popescu received her medical degree from Carol Davila Medical School, Bucharest, Romania in 1996. She completed her anesthesiology residency training at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, USA in 2002. She undertook two fellowships in vascular and cardio-thoracic anesthesiology at Yale University School of Medicine and remained on faculty. She has published numerous journal articles and book chapters related to cardiothoracic and vascular anesthesia. Dr. Popescu is one of the two editors of “Master Techniques in Upper and Lower Airway Management”, a print and e-book, which includes over 120 videos. She has lectured at multiple national and international meetings. Her main research interests are focused on the cardiovascular disturbances associated with obesity and perioperative management of antiplatelet therapy in patients with coronary stents. Dr. Popescu is a member of the Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography Examination writing committee and a Part 2 board examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. In addition, Dr. Popescu is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia.
