Statement of expertise for the sub-committee: My current research focuses on perioperative patient blood management and on perioperative tissue perfusion. In both research lines we evaluate novel devices that are used to facilitate adequate diagnosis and monitoring of therapy. Due to our interest for technology and devices I am member of the subcommittee 'Technology' of the WCA conference.

Christa Boer started her PhD in 1996 in the department of Anesthesiology and Physiology of the VU University Medical Center in 2001. After a postdoctoral period at UCSD (San Diego, USA), dr. Boer subsequently worked as Assistant Professor in Anesthesiology and Physiology at the VU University Medical Center in the area of cardiac remodeling and cardioprotection.
She now works as Professor of Anesthesiology in the clinical research lines Perioperative Care and published more than 115 papers in international journals. Her translational research focuses on the interplay between tissue perfusion, endothelial activation and coagulation in the acute and perioperative setting. Moreover, she is involved in several studies focusing on perioperative hemostasis and patient blood management in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.
