Biography: Bio: Dr Huitink completed his medical study at VU University Medical Center in 1995 and obtained a PhD cardiology in the same year. He completed his anesthesiology training at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam in 2001. In 2001 he started working at the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the Netherlands Cancer Institute – Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital in Amsterdam, where he specialized in cancer anesthesia. In 2007 he moved Down Under to work as consultant at the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine of Western Health Melbourne. In 2008 he joined the staff of the Department of Anesthesiology at VUmc. He was expatriated in 2011 to work on Bonaire in the Dutch Caribbean and give advice on restructuring the emergency health care system.He is well published including several medical books within his fields of interest. He is an expert in difficult airway management, neuroanaesthesia including asleep-awake-asleep procedures, high fidelity medical simulation, air medical patient transportation and cancer anesthesia. He is guest faculty for international airway management courses. He is head of the airway management research group VUmc and founder of the Airway Management Academy, a non-profit global teaching institute. He was chair of the 3rd Global Conference of Perioperative Medicine, Care of the Cancer Patient in 2015 in Amsterdam. When not working you can find him near the ocean
