Awarded First place. International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS), Science and Education Award, “The Orsim™ Bronchoscopy Simulator”, May 21-24 2011, Vancouver, Canada. This is an international annual award. NZSA John Ritchie Prize Winner, awarded at the annual scientific meeting held in Auckland, 16th November 2012. Paper was “Visual acuity during direct laryngoscopy at different illuminance levels”.  

Statement of expertise for the sub-committee: Clinical Senior lecturer in the Department of Anaesthesiology, University of Auckland. Consultant Anaesthetist, Starship Children's Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand. Research interest and MD thesis ‘Improving  the quality and safety of airway management’. Founded the AirwaySkills course (www.airwayskills.co.nz) in 1996. Developer of the Orsim™ bronchoscopy simulator (www.orsim.co.nz).  Awarded first place in the IARS Science and Education competition, Vancouver 2011. Board member of the Society for Airway Management.
