Biography: Associate Professor Michael Barrington is Senior Staff Anaesthetist at St Vincents Hospital, Melbourne and Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He has developed and implemented an International Registry of Regional Anaesthesia to provide a unique source of reliable clinical data reporting on quality and safety outcomes. Dr Barrington has published widely in the field of regional anaesthesia. Interests include methods to improve training in regional anaesthesia, assessment of procedural skills, development of quality, safety and patient-rated metrics. He has been on invited faculty at several international meetings. Professional activities and appointments include Anaesthesia Discipline lead for the Melbourne Clinical School, The University of Notre Dame Australia; Associate Editor for the journal Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine; Past Chair of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists Regional Anaesthesia Special Interest Group; Organising Committee for the Australasian Symposium for Ultrasound and Regional Anaesthesia 2008, 2009, 2012, 2015; Newsletter Committee and Practice Advisory member for the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and has contributed to Medical Expert Standing Panels for the Australian Department of Health and Ageing.
