Biography: Dr. Shafer is currently Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University, Editor-in-Chief of Anesthesia & Analgesia, and adjunct Associate Professor of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences at the University of California at San Francisco. He is also an active clinician at Stanford University Hospital, specializing in regional anesthesia. He and his research team at Stanford have developed novel approaches to understanding and characterizing the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of anesthetic drugs. He was a Co-Founder of Pharsight Corporation in the 1990s, PharmacoFore (now Signature Therapeutics) in 2003, and spent 10 years on the development of Sedasys. Dr. Shafer served as the Editor-in-Chief of Anesthesia & Analgesia from 2006 to 2016.
