Biography: Charles J Coté M.D. Professor of Anesthesia, Harvard Medical School, Anesthetist, Massachusetts General Hospital and the MassGeneral Hospital for Children. He is a Board Certified Pediatrician, Anesthesiologist, Pediatric Anesthesiologist with a Special Certificate in Critical Care. He trained in pediatrics at Tufts New England Medical Center and then did an anesthesia residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania followed by a fellowship in pediatric anesthesia at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He has a wide interest in pediatric anesthesia and has served on many national and international committees. He has been a consultant on the Anesthesiology and Respiratory Therapy Devices panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee, Center for Diseases and Radiological Health, Food and Drug Administration. He was a Section Editor of Pediatric Anesthesia and on the editorial boards of Pediatric Anesthesia, the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia, and the Journal of Anesthesia. He is a reviewer for 11 other journals and his research has focused upon clinical trials to develop pediatric drug labeling, research and equipment specific to infants and children and safe sedation practices by non-anesthesiologists. He has published a textbook in pediatric anesthesia (A Practice of Anesthesia for Infants and Children, Elsevier) which is in its fifth edition as well as a handbook in pediatric anesthesia and is the author of 70 peer-reviewed journal publications, 16 topic reviews, 27 editorials, 79 book chapters, and helped develop 33 clinical practice guidelines.
