Dr. Gehring received his medical and undergraduate degrees at the University of Bochum in the middle part of Germany, the Ruhrgebiet, within 2 fellowships at the Texas Heart Institute, Houston Tx, US as well as the Childrens University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland. He has started his residency in anesthesiology at the German Heart Center in Berlin and at the University of Luebeck, where he is actively involved as a directive senior resident (Leitender Oberarzt) of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine.
During his residency, he completed a 1-year education in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery and visceral surgery. The authorship involved more than 80 peer reviewed articles in national and international journals, along with several book chapters and statements. He is currently Professor of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the University Medical Center of Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Luebeck and is actively involved in both basic science in biomedical engineering and clinical anesthesiology research. He is also active in fellow and resident education and in cooperation with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Luebeck. He served on board of directors of the German Society of Biomedical Engineering (www.DGBMT.de) from 2004 to 2015.
