Biography: Peter Gordon retired as Head of Clinical Services from the Department of Anaesthesia at Groote Schuur Hospital and University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2012. His major areas of clinical interest are anaesthesia for liver transplantation, cardiothoracic anaesthesia, anaesthetic equipment and drug safety. Currently he is employed as a part-time lecturer in the UCT Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine. He served on the Council of the South African Society of Anaesthesiologists (SASA) for a number of years, was President in 1992-3 and is and currently the Honorary SASA Archivist. Currently his major interest lies in the history of anaesthesia. He is Honorary Curator of the Nagin Parbhoo History of Anaesthesia Museum in Cape Town, is Chairman of the Management Committee of the Cape Medical Museum, and is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Anesthesia Hiistory.
