Statement of expertise for the sub-committee: Specialist paediatric anaesthetist with an interest in neuro, craniofacial, spinal, burns and general surgery, paediatric vascular access, simulation in paediatrics and anaesthesia, outreach to isolated and resource limited paediatric anaesthetists, establishment of paediatric anaesthesia networks.

Biography: Rebecca obtained her MBChB at the University of Cape Town. She was always interested in paediatrics but discovered, and grew to love, anaesthesia in her first years of medical practice. She returned to Cape Town for her FCA after working and travelling in Australia and Europe. Since 2007 she has worked at the Red Cross Childrens Hospital as a paediatric anaesthetist and has special interests in anaesthesia for paediatric spinal, craniofacial and neuro surgery, burns and general surgery, paediatric vascular access, simulation in anaesthesia and paediatrics and in supporting isolated and resource-challenged paediatric anaesthetists. She has developed and runs vascular access workshops and is the lead clinician for MEPA in Cape Town. She was a founder member of the Paediatric Anaesthesia Community of South Africa and collaborates intercontinentally with the SPAN-A group. She revels in barrelling down the rocky tracks of the Cape mountains on her 29er and baking with her two children.
