Biography: Dr. Grocott completed medical school in Canada at the University of Saskatchewan in 1990, and after finishing an anesthesia residency at the University of Manitoba in 1995, he went on to complete clinical fellowship and research training in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina where he later joined the faculty advancing to the rank of tenured Professor in 2006. In 2007, he relocated to the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, where he currently holds the position of Professor (with tenure) in the Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine with a joint appointment in Surgery. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief for the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia. He has published more than 250 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters in a range of anesthesia and cardiac surgical topics. His research interests largely relate to the cerebral sequelae of cardiac surgery where he has focused on cerebral monitoring and adverse outcomes after cardiac surgery.
