Statement of expertise for the sub-committee: Since 1995 I have been a self-employed Consultant specializing in all matters related to standards and advising companies on compliance with the European Medical Device Directive and US, FDA directives. I am currently a member of several International, European and UK National standards committees and was instrumental in developing the standards for anaesthetic equipment for use in areas where electricity and gas may not be available.

Biography: I have been a part of the medical equipment industry all my working life. After qualifying as a mechanical engineer I then spent over 40 years with various companies, that manufactured everything from Anaesthetic machines to therapy facemasks, both on the technical side and the commercial side. Since 1995 I have been a self-employed Consultant specializing in all matters related to standards and advising companies on compliance with the European Medical Device Directive and US, FDA directives. I am currently a member of several International, European and UK National standards committees and was instrumental in developing the standards for anaesthetic equipment for use in areas where electricity and gas may not be available.
