Award / titles received: Churchill Trust award, 2015 Churchill Fellowship, for a research project visiting UK, Germany, France & USA in 2016 entitled ""To enhance the safety of Australian patients by reducing misconnections between medical devices.”

Statement of expertise for the sub-committee: I am a committee member of national and international standards organizations developing safety standards for medical equipment. I have a longstanding interest in ethics in medicine, in particular translating this towards to development of suitable standards for, and sustainability of, equipment in anaesthesia, critical care and resuscitation worldwide.

Biography: Phoebe Mainland is a consultant anaesthesiologist currently working in Melbourne, Australia, a fellow of both ANZCA & HKCA. She has worked in Australia, Hong Kong and UK; was guest faculty in Anaesthesia at Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal; conducted med-evacs for critically ill patients in South East Asia, and has worked as an anaesthesiologist in medical support teams for international military and police engagements in Solomon Islands and East Timor. Since 2005 Phoebe has been involved in standards organizations nationally (Standards Australia) and internationally (ISO), developing safety standards for medical equipment. Phoebe read for MA (Medical Ethics & Law) from Kings College, London, and has sat on various committees including health ethics committees and a medical defence organization advisory committee. She continues to hold appointment as Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is a fellow of ACLM and a member of the Academy of Experts (UK). She was awarded a 2015 Churchill Fellowship. Phoebe became the liaison for WSFA and ISO in 2012, reporting to the Safety & Quality Committee as a co-opted member.
