Affiliation: Anaesthesia North Shore Hospital, Auckland, NZ, Auckland, New Zealand;
Biography: I graduated from University of Auckland in 1993, and completed specialist anaesthesia training between Auckland NZ, and Sydney, Australia. My FANZCA was completed in 2000, which was followed by an appointment to a consultant anaesthetist post at North Shore Hospital, just north of the Auckland harbour bridge. I am an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland and have been teaching regional anaesthesia as applied anatomy for the past 12 years. I am responsible for the Auckland based Regional Anaesthesia Topical Seminars, which run annually. My research is based on anaesthesia for shoulder surgery, including the first description of combined suprascapular and axillary (circumflex) nerve block as an alternative to interscalene block. This currently involves use of US to improve performance of the technique. Ironically, I have been on the receiving end, having had 2 operations on my left shoulder. I have 2 young daughters who bring me a lot of pleasure, and still enjoy ocean kayaking when possible.
