Statement of expertise for the sub-committee: Dr. Douglas Shook is currently the Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship Program Director and the Director for Cardiac Interventional Anesthesia Services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  Dr. Shook is recognized as a leader in echocardiography education.   He presents at national and international meetings including conferences in the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa.  Dr. Shook is Co-Director of one of the largest perioperative echocardiography conferences in the world sponsored by the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists and serves on the Society’s Board of Directors. He has the distinction of being a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography and serves on the Exam Writing Committee for the National Board of Echocardiography.  Dr. Shook also co-developed the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists Kaplan Grant to promote the development and education of early career cardiac anesthesiologists as academic leaders.  His research interests include perioperative imaging, interventional medicine in the cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs, and patient safety and quality.  Many of Dr. Shook’s ongoing efforts involve developing relationships across specialties and creating collaborative projects.
