Statement of expertise for the sub-committee: I am a fulltime paediatric anaesthetist at a large tertiary children's Hospital, where my primary clinical interests are paediatric cardiac and thoracic anaesthesia.

Biography: Dr Skowno is a full-time senior paediatric anaesthetist at the Children's Hospital at Westmead, a tertiary referral hospital in Sydney Australia. His primary clinical work involves paediatric cardiac, thoracic and general surgery. He is a senior clinical lecturer in the Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Sydney, and is active in a number of research projects. These include investigating the utility of near infrared spectroscopy in various clinical areas, the impact of anaesthesia in neurodevelopment in children, and the physiology of nitric oxide in paediatric cardiopulmonary bypass. Outside of work, Sydney provides an excellent playground for family life with his wife and three energetic kids, and time for the occasional bout of cycling, running and touch rugby.
