Biography: Dr. Ban Tsui is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Alberta and an adult and pediatric anesthesiologist with special interest in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. Dr. Tsui directs the Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Service at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta, and co-Chairs the Pediatric Pain Management Committee at the Stollery Childrens Hospital. Dr. Tsui is also Site Chief for Anesthesia at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton. He also oversees the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicines clinical research program. Dr. Tsui has published over 150 articles and letters covering clinical and basic research and is a reviewer for a number of anesthesiology journals. Dr. Tsui is the author of the textbook Atlas of Ultrasound and Nerve Stimulation-Guided Regional Anesthesia and is a co-author of Pediatric Atlas of Ultrasound and Nerve Stimulation-Guided Regional Anesthesia as well as Principles of Airway Management (4th edition); he has also contributed chapters to several anesthesiology textbooks. Dr. Tsui is frequently invited to speak at anesthesiology-focused symposia and workshops and has had his research featured in over 75 abstracts. A recipient of numerous grants and awards, Dr. Tsui is currently an Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Clinical Scholar. Recently, Dr. Tsui also received the prestigious research recognition award from the Canadian Anesthesiologists Society, a national honour award, “in recognition of significant research contributions to regional anesthesia, acute pain management, and pediatric anesthesia in Canada and around the world”.
