Biography: Qualifications: MBBS, FRCA, FFARCS(I), FANZCA, FAMM (Malaysia) Professor and Senior Consultant in the Department of Anaesthesiology, University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for 30 years. Main professional interests: Acute and Chronic Pain Management, Anaesthesia for Neurosurgery and Clinical Pharmacology. Established the first Acute Pain Service in Malaysia in UMMC in 1992. Implemented Pain as the 5th Vital sign in 2011. Helped establish the Malaysian Association for the Study of Pain (MASP) in 1993, and was the founding Secretary till 2001. President of MASP from 2001 to 2013 and now Advisor to the EXCO. Member of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and served on the Membership Committee; Currently on the Scientific Program Committee for the World Congress on Pain in Yokohama in 2016. Member of the International Pain Registry Committe of IASP and participated in the Pain-Out Program for three years. Founder Editor in Chief of the ASEAN Journal of Anaesthesiology from 1999-2005 and continued as Associate editor till 2013. Invited to join the editorial board of the new open access jounal - ""Pain Reports"" - by IASP. Inivited speaker at numerous National, Regional and International meetings including at the World Congress of Anaesthesiology and World Congress on Pain. Faculty member at three IASP Pain Management Camps in the ASEAPS Congresses. Panel member on the Guideline committee for publishing the following Guides for Malaysian doctors: Management of Neuropathic Pain, Management of Low Back Pain, Guide to the use of strong opioids for non-cancer pain. Published Handbooks for young doctors / nurses on Acute Pain Management.
