Statement of expertise for the sub-committee: My clinical practice centers on anesthesia for cardiac and vascular surgeries as well as non-cardiac, high-risk procedures. My research interest includes perioperative echocardiography, coagulation monitoring, patient blood management, and cerebral oximetry.

Biography: Dr. Carlos Galhardo earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He completed a residency program in Anesthesiology at the same University, and a clinical fellowship in Cardiovascular Anesthesia and Critical Care at the Toronto General Hospital, Canada. He has Superior Title in Anesthesiology (TSA) by the Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology, and he is Board Certified in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE), USA. His clinical practice centers on anesthesia for cardiac and vascular surgeries as well as non-cardiac, high-risk procedures. His research interest includes perioperative echocardiography, coagulation monitoring, patient blood management, and cerebral oximetry. Dr. Galhardo is the Chief of Anesthesia Department at Unimed Rio Hospital and an Attending Anesthesiologist at the National Institute of Cardiology in Brazil. Currently, he is the Chair of the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Committee by the Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology, member of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) International Committee, and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia (JCVA).
